It's the City of Light, the City of Love, a hotspot for haute cuisine, a fashion capital and home to some of the world's top museums. But with so much to experience in one grand city, what should you do if you only have a weekend in Paris?
Feeling Frenchy
For a short stay, it's better to stay central, and the Paris 8 apartments offer superb locations without an excessive price tag. There's a range of options from cosy studios to spacious two bedroom apartments in locations like the Marais, Champs-Elysées, and the Latin Quarter. Check the specs and take your pick. The spaces are quintessentially French. Each apartment is beautifully decked out with unique details and artworks. Aside from being exactly where you need to be, the experience is special because you're living amongst the locals. It won't be long before you'll think you're one of them.
Starting out
Stop by your nearest café or bakery for a fresh croissant or pain au chocolat, then it's off to the museum you go. Choose your poison. The Louvre is the place for Dan Brown and Mona Lisa fans. If you're an impressionist lover, then you'll love Musée d'Orsay, or if you prefer something more modern it's the Centre Pompidou for you.
Day tripping
No trip to Paris is complete without a little retail therapy. So head to Paris' famous department store, Galeries Lafayette, where you can do some damage and grab lunch on the run in the gourmet food court. The architecture is also fab.
Before you're completely spent, make your way to the glorious Notre Dame cathedral. Then once you've made friends with the gargoyles, grab yourself a sweet treat at the nearby Glacier Berthillon, Paris' famous ice-creamery.
Saturday night
A cruise down the Seine is a divine way to get an all round sense of the city. Some organisations offer a complete package with food and wine, but if you want to fit more into the evening, save dinner for later.
Book a late dinner at Le Train Bleu, a beautiful restaurant in the Gare de Lyon train station. It's no surprise this historic restaurant has featured in several films. The décor is beyond extravagant with gilt walls and ceilings and the food is typically French. It's a bit of a splurge but well worth it.
Lazy Sunday
For a slower start, you can't go past a long breakfast at the gorgeous Café Hugo overlooking the 17th century Place des Voges in the Marais. Breakfast is very reasonably priced. You can relax and make your way through coffee, juice, fresh baguette or pain au chocolat, eggs and a dessert for around 15 Euro. Take a good walk around the Marais and enjoy.
Midday merriment
After a morning of walking, you might be feeling peckish again. If it's a nice day, grab a fresh baguette, and perhaps a bottle of wine and catch the metro to the Trocadéro plaza. This is an excellent spot to stop and soak in the city. The plaza has glorious views that include a direct line to the Eiffel Tower.
After some time out, go for a climb up the Arc De Triomphe if you dare, and explore the Champs Elysées.
Au revoir
To complete your Parisian sojourn, bid adieu to the city with a glass of champagne on top of the Eiffel Tower.
Then its time to pretend you're an artist of the early 20th century and dine at La Coupole, an historic Montparnasse brasserie. It was good enough for Picasso and Henry Miller.
