A German zoo has built a crazy house to give visitors a "totally new perspective on a familiar view".

The house, at Gettorf in the country's north, is 7m tall and features an upside-down kitchen bathroom, living room and bedroom, but is not designed to be lived in.

Local carpenter Gerhard Mordhorst said the house was challenging to build.

"You had to constantly think of the mirror images," he said.

The house will open on March 30.
